This is a great site. I will pass it on...
I love Dr. Yalom's books and Love's Executioner and the Gift of Therapy were my first therapy books I bought for myself when I first started the Counseling Masters Program.

Thank you so much for this site. The college I attended had many wonderful books by Irvin Yalom but are more expensive than yours and aren't even signed copies! Your site is refreshing for those of us planning to continue our education in the field of psychotherapy and the general public curious abut this area of study.

I just want to applaud the existential poet, Tom Greening. The poems are remarkable and witty. I love the managed care program. When I finished reading it, I could only say "My thoughts exactly." But your word precision and style is fantastic! Keep it up!

I just read Melissa Groman's article about Lowering Fees in Hard Times. I found that it contained useful and helpful information. I also found it helpful because it posed various questions for me to ponder further the topic and the issues of money and therapy from the therapist's perspective. Thanks Melissa for a helpful, informative and useful article!

I am writing in hopes of receiving a newsletter. I am doing an internship with a Alcohol and Drug Counseling agency, and I am looking for articles that will teach me and my clients. I do not have the money right now to order, but I do not want to lose contact with you.

I have really enjoyed the interviews and videos. Very helpful and you offer something very unique. Great job. How about interviewing James Hollis, a Jungian/existentialist? Anyone familiar with him?

I am a social work major (clinical practice) in TX. I found you by googling 'resistant clients.' I absolutely loved this site.. though didnt get a time to go through it in detail..but this is very different from conventional psychotherapy sources, which are usually termed as boring.Gud job guys!

I am viewing your site for the first time. It is quite exciting. I was just wondering if there is a "wish cart" in which I can keep my goods to be purchased at a later date? Dr. Vinod Chebbi, Banglore, India
Response from Psychotherapy.net: Sorry, we don't currently have the capacity for you to create "wish carts," but this is on our "wish list" of features we will eventually be adding to website. Thanks for your suggestion.

As part of an upcoming EMT training test, an extra point question, I would like to find out the word for "fear of dying." Per instructor, the word does not include phobia.

The interview with Thomas Szasz, MD.provided me with tremendous insight into an authentic legitimate psychotherapeutic practice for the people who need help. I found his views truthful, on point and at the true heart of what is wrong with our society. I read this interview as a part of a graduate course assignment however instead of gleaning a small token of information. I have found enlightenment towards my own psychotherapeutic practice. What I want and what I do not want to happen as well as who I want to be on my own journey to help others. I send my blessings, good wishes and thanks to the editor and affliates of this site for this most valuable interview

I am a graduate student (MFT) not well off myself. I currently see a therapist myself. However, as i look around I often wonder in this economy, how can when so many people are in need of extra help; why are some (therapists) people that are suppose to be in the business of helping be so scared of lowering their fees a little while North America has the highest unemployment rate in 40 years? I was deeply moved by Dr.Sharp's connection between exploring the depths of the ocean with the infinity of a man's soul. While many men would easily don a mask and suit for an underwater adventure, few take the time to realize what untapped resources there are within themselves.

Thank you for this thoughtful and well considered article about the sensitive topic of money in these difficult times. Hopefully, it will be a starting point for many productive conversations between clients and therapists, and even between therapists and themselves.

A thought-provoking, useful article on Lowering Fees in Hard Times. One question: how does the issue of lowering fee interact with contracts with insurance companies? What are we free or not free to do in terms of reducing fees?

As a psychiatrist with a subspecialty in Psychosomatic Medicine and an advanced candidate at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, I have a diverse and interesting private practice including medication management, psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis. Like everyone, I see the economic fallout in my patients. Grappling with fees and what they mean is part of the work of therapy and what the fee means is often a guide to whether or not, or by how much, the fee should be adjusted. Might this work be unconsciously more difficult, obscured or obfuscated, when we treat "clients", symbolizing the "customer" aspect of being a person in need, rather than "patients", who are people in emotional and psychic pain coming to us for professional help?
I would add that I think the author does an excellent job of addressing a very complicated and timely issue.

I’d like to thank Melissa Groman for her thought-provoking and comprehensive article on the issue of lowering fees in hard financial times.
Although I have gotten more comfortable over the years with not sliding my fee as a knee-jerk response to someone telling me of their money woes, it can still pull on me.
Yes, we ALL have issues around money and self worth and it’s interesting to me that one client can feel loved by us lowering our fees and another feel ashamed or even insulted. I’d be interested as well to hear about the fees that the insurance companies pay us therapists (that we accept!). There is one panel that I have been on for ten years that has never paid more than $50 per session! I justify staying on this panel because I do get referrals I wouldn’t otherwise but it is also my way of tithing/giving back to the community. That said, I resent being viewed by these huge conglomerates as worth $50 and I wonder why we as a group accept this. Perhaps this is another article.
In any case, thank you.

The article written by Jeff Sharp: Lessons from the Depths was something I could truly identify with being both a diver and a therapist. The analogies drawn were so valuable, and I will certainly be using them in my work. Thanks for an extremely useful article.
