Develop Your Couples Counseling Skills, Get Better Results and Build Your Practice with this 10-Audio CD and 96-page workbook kit!

When you work with couples, you don’t always hear much positive feedback. In fact, most of sessions are probably spent with angry partners who want you to referee the fight of the week. How would you like to change that?

Imagine hearing more and more couples telling you, “Thank you for working with us. I believe you saved our marriage.” Or things like, “You have a real gift for what you do,” “We don’t know how to thank you for what you have done,” or, “I was’t sure it was possible to get to where we are. You are a genius!”

You will hear all these things and many more like them, when you integrate what you learn from this powerful new resource into your practice. “In Quest of the Mythical Mate” from Doctors Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson helps your couples’ practice really take off.

This practical model for successful couples therapy is a complete practice building kit in a box! Starting with 10-CDs and a 96-page workbook, this program teaches diagnosis, first sessions, managing tough couples and other specific techniques. It has lots of actual transcripts and clinical vignettes, and real examples of sessions sprinkled throughout the CDs to demonstrate what you are learning. It serves as a foundation for therapists of all theoretical orientations.

Best of all, it is an integrated approach—not just a technique here and there. This program gives you a complete overview of the developmental model of couples’ relationships, and it’s the only place you can find complete training on the Initiator-Inquirer Process that Ellyn and Peter developed.

Therapists worldwide now successfully use this process to get better results with their clients. It will help you diagnose, assess and intervene with couples in a targeted and precise way.

You’ll learn the parallels between couples’ relationships and childhood development. You’ll also learn the role of attachment in personality development, and the four developmental issues that most impact a partner’s ability to evolve in a healthy relationship.

Ellyn and Peter demonstrate how to maintain control and focus with an angry, combative couple. They also describe the characteristics of seven other dominant types of couples, so you can recognize them when they come into your office. Then they highlight the difference between differentiation and practicing, and why this makes a crucial difference for effective diagnosis and treatment.

No theories, nothing abstract—just specific applicable techniques to get better results with your clients, and attract more of them. You’ll learn many breakthrough steps which will help your couples communicate more effectively about highly sensitive topics.

This powerful resource also includes some additional materials to enhance your clients' results, and grow your practice faster. Along with the 10 CDs and workbook, you also get:

1. A package of 25 Initiator-Inquirer coaching cards, which you can utilize with couples in your practice when you use the I-I process with them. Ellyn and Peter have taught this I-I process to thousands of therapists, who are now using it successfully. These coaching cards will make it easier for you.

2. 100 “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” (“ABCD”) cards. These are another tool that you can give to your clients to get better results with them.

3. 50 “Stepping Stones” brochures. Use them to develop more business, by giving them to new clients, as well as any inquiries you receive from the phone directory, ads, or referrals. These are the exact brochures Ellyn and Peter use to build their successful practice at The Couples Institute. They add credibility to what you do, encourage people to seek counseling, and explain how couples counseling can help them.

This kit is a complete tool to help you develop your own counseling skills, get better results for the couples you work with, and grow your practice—a complete resource.

This complete couples therapy kit includes:

  • 10 Audio CDs.
  • 96-page workbook
  • 25 Initiator-Inquirer coaching cards
  • 50 “Stepping Stones” brochures for your practice
  • 100 “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” cards for working with couples at all stages of development

About Ellyn Bader, PhD and Peter Pearson, PhD

For more than 20 years, Ellyn and Peter have been helping couples resolve issues and create strong, loving relationships. They are considered by many to be the preeminent experts in couples therapy training in the world today. They are creators of The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, and directors of The Couples Institute in Menlo Park, California. Their model teaches you how to diagnose, intervene and significantly help troubled relationships.

Ellyn and Peter are the authors of the classic text, In Quest of the Mythical Mate: A Developmental Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment in Couples Therapy. The California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists awarded the book the “Clark Vincent Award” for its outstanding contribution to the field of marital therapy.

Ellyn and Peter maintain an active lecture and workshop schedule for both couples and professionals. Ellyn served as president of the International Transactional Analysis Association, and spent eight years on the Clinical Faculty at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Peter is a Consulting Associate Professor at Stanford University.

Ellyn and Peter are unusual among couples therapists in that they are a couple themselves, and have confronted many of the challenges that they write and speak about. Best of all, Ellyn and Peter still run a thriving private practice, so the knowledge you learn here is what is working today.
