Overview

Featuring noted art therapists James Consoli and Robert Ault, Case Studies: Art Therapy with Adults shows experts working with adult clients in art therapy. Consoli works with a woman with a phobia that kept her from working and going to school. Through spontaneous and often abstract art creations, the client was able to use the art therapy process to recall the root of her fear of death. Through her work with Consoli, the patient was able to access some of her repressed memories of the trauma that had caused her phobia and was able to return to her life successfully.

Robert Ault’s client, also a young woman, was able to draw how she felt at times and was eventually able to overcome her urges to injure herself through regular participation in art therapy sessions. Utilizing art therapy directives, Ault was able used to help his client get some distance from her feelings.

Grandma Layton’s life was improved through creating art more than from the shock treatment and medications given to her when she was hospitalized, helping her to finally cope with a lifelong depression.and how art had transformed her struggle with depression.

Through interviews and excerpts of sessions we watch as lives are changed.
