Judy Rubin, PhD, presents Growing up with Art Therapy: A Glorious Adventure forAlmost 6 Decades! Sponsored by the Focusing and Expressive Arts Institute—”Roots, Branches and Wings” Series with Pioneers and Master Teachers.
In this inspiring presentation, pioneer Art Therapist Judy Rubin first shares her own roots—beginning with a still image of herself at 6 years old at an easel with her father; her journey as an art educator and then her interest in arts expression and its underlying meaning and means for communication. We also see a video clip from Judy’s 3 years working as the Art Lady in the well-known Public Broadcasting Series (PBS), Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The presentation is filled with rare still photographs and video clips of the early influencers in her life (e.g. Erik Erikson, Margaret Farland) along with pioneer art therapists Margaret Naumburg, Edith Kramer, Hana Yaxa Kwiatkowska, and more. The birth of Art Therapy as a field is seen through Judy’s story and the pioneering work of numerous other emerging arts therapists. Judy share a wealth of archival film and video clips of arts therapists that bring an aliveness to the history of Art Therapy in the United States.
