COURSE DETAILS

Overview

Art therapy offers a way to access conscious and subconscious thought, allowing memories once thought lost to surface, even as dementia impairs language. This lecture examines the brain’s interplay between these thought processes and how art therapy enhances dementia care, and focuses on Alzheimer’s and related dementias, the partnership of arts and neuroscience, advances in art therapy technology, and debunking myths about self-awareness in dementia. It underscores the critical role of creativity in maintaining brain health, especially as we age. Both healthcare professionals and caregivers gain insight into how art therapy strengthens clinical interventions and dementia support. Above all, it celebrates the individual’s presence and humanity, despite the challenges of neural decline.
