Fire & Sand – Sandplay as Therapy after a Volcano Eruption

On May 3, 2018, Kilauea erupted, triggering months of earthquakes and widespread destruction across Hawaii’s lower Puna district, displacing thousands. Fire and Sand, an award-winning documentary by a psychologist and first-time filmmaker, captures the community’s response and healing process. Through firsthand accounts, the film explores trauma, resilience, and renewal, interwoven with the living mythology of Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess.
