Ruthellen Josselson

Ruthellen Josselson is a Professor of Psychology at The Fielding Graduate University and was formerly a Professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Harvard University. She is the author of Playing Pygmalion: How People Create One Another, Revising Herself: The Story of Women's Identity from College to Midlife, and The Space Between Us: Exploring the Dimensions of Human Relationships. She has been for many years the co-editor of the annual The Narrative Study of Lives. Recipient of the Henry A. Murray Award from the American Psychological Association and a Fulbright Fellowship, she is also a practicing psychotherapist and holds a diploma in Group Psychotherapy.

Saira Bains

Saira Bains works as a psychologist and an integrative psychotherapist as well as a Director of Psychological Services in London, England. This paper is based on her extensive research for her doctoral research project. Saira received her Masters of Social Sciences in Integrative Psychotherapy (1999) from the The Metanoia Trust where she is also finishing up her Doctorate in Professional Studies in Psychotherapy. She also earned her Masters Degree in Psychiatry, Philosophy and Society (1992) from the Centre for Psychotherapeutic Studies, University of Sheffield. Jay Lappin, LCSW, is a Structural Family Therapist, trainer and author. He spent fourteen years at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, where, under the direction of Dr. Salvador Minuchin, he was a senior trainer, research therapist, and the Associate Director of the Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Family Therapy & Systems Consultation. His work has been published in professional journals and texts and he has been quoted in popular magazines and newspapers such as Cosmopolitan, Self, and USA Today. He is a Contributing Editor for the Psychotherapy Networker and a board member for the Minuchin Center for the Family, and he maintains an active clinical private practice. Sam Steen

Dr. Sam Steen, an Associate Professor and licensed Professional School Counselor, specializes in group work and cultivating Black students’ academic identity development. Dr. Steen was a school counselor for 10 years and these practitioner experiences shape his research agenda, approach to teaching, and service. Dr. Steen is a Fellow for the Association for Specialists in Group Work, a division of the American Counseling Association. Recently, Dr. Steen received the Al Dye Research Award and the Professional Advancement Award both from ASGW recognizing his outstanding efforts advancing the field of group work though research and development of a new and innovative strategies for schools, families, and marginalized communities.

Robert Berger

Robert Berger is a retired cardiothoracic surgeon who is currently Director of Clinical Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. Previously he was Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Professor of Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine. He has published over 250 articles in scholarly medical texts and was the first in the world to implant a partial artificial heart in a patient who survived. He is married and is the father of two daughters.
