Lillian B. Rubin
Lillian B. Rubin is an internationally recognized author, lecturer, and social scientist who was born in Philadelphia, grew up in New York City, and moved to California as a young adult. She lives in San Francisco, where she was, until recently, a practicing psychotherapist and a member of the faculty at the Institute for the Study of Social Change at the University of California, Berkeley.
She has published many articles and twelve books, including The Man with the Beautiful Voice, a book of personal essays on being a psychotherapist, from which this story was republished. Her most recent work, 60 ON UP: The Truth About Aging in America, is an unflinching look at the complex sociological, cultural, and psychological issues of aging in our time. Linda Gask
Linda Gask is Professor of Primary Care Psychiatry at the University of Manchester, and was the founder of the STORM training initiative for suicide prevention. She is the Western European Zonal Representative for the World Psychiatric Association and has worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization. She has done extensive research on improving the quality of care for people with depression and medically unexplained symptoms, and the management of people at risk of self-harm.
Linda Moxley-Haegert
Linda, a clinical psychologist was introduced to the narrative practice ideas used in this paper in 1991 while living and working in Newfoundland, Canada. She has spent much of her career working as a clinical psychologist and narrative practitioner with children and their families in hospital settings and with palliative care in those environments. She is now working at the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Canada and with the Indigenous Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) people in Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada. Lisa Firestone is the Director of Research and Education at the Glendon Association. Since 1987, she has been involved in clinical training and applied research in the areas of suicide and violence. These studies resulted in the development of the Firestone Assessment of Self-Destructive Thoughts (FAST), the Firestone Assessment of Violent Thoughts (FAVT), and the Firestone Assessment of Suicide Intent (FASI), all published by PAR. She is a presenter at national and international conferences on the topics of assessment of self-destructive and violent behavior, couple relations, and Voice Therapy.
