Adlerian Play Therapy
Expert Play Therapist Dr. Terry Kottman illustrates that children communicate through play and that all play has a purpose. In this video, Dr. Kottman meets with a 5-year old boy who is split between two homes and lacking a sense of control in his life. By reflecting his actions, and using encouragement and suggestions through play, Dr. Kottman soon discovers that this young client needs to show her who’s boss. Jon Carlson and Don Keat introduce Dr. Kottman, and facilitate an in-depth discussion of the further impact and uses of this approach.

Terry KottmanTerry Kottman, PhD is a leading teacher and recognized expert on play therapy, regularly presenting workshops all over the country. She spent 15 years as a professor of counselor education at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of North Texas. Dr. Kottman is the author of Partners in Play: An Adlerian Approach to Play Therapy and Play Therapy: Basics and Beyond, as well as many journal articles and book chapters.
